International security, intelligence leaders share ideals, enrich partnerships

CALI, Colombia -- Senior security and defense leaders from 30 countries around the world attended the 6th annual Hemispheric Security and Intelligence Forum (FISH) Aug. 17 – 20.
The purpose of the forum was to share experiences and ideals regarding security and intelligence, while continuing to building stronger partnerships among attending nations.

Elite Caribbean disaster unit strengthens capacity

ST. CROIX, Virgin Islands -- An elite team of emergency managers came together March 17-24 at the Virgin Islands National Guard Regional Training Institute to enhance their disaster response skills.
The CARICOM Disaster Response Unit, or CDRU, is a 35-person quasi-military team made up of military members, firefighters and police officers from 18 separate Caribbean nations.

Falcons overcome late Navy comeback, beat Mids 35-34 in OT

UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY, Md. -- Despite a 2-1 record, Air Force fans have despaired over some luckluster Falcon play this season. However, some of that was washed away as the Falcons defeated the Navy Midshipmen 35-34 today at Jack Stephens Field.
The Falcons were riding high into the second half, but it all almost came crashing down as the Mids pushed the game into overtime. Thanks to some huge overtime penalties on the Mids, the Falcons were able to pull out the 1-point victory.

Falcons bring home Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama formally presented the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy to seniors from the Air Force Falcons football team today at the White House.
The trophy is awarded to the military service academy football team with the best regular season record against the other two teams. The trophy was first awarded in 1972 by President Richard Nixon.

'I am Ironman': Academy AOC picked for top triathlon

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Forget about who's crazy enough to participate in a triathlon, who was crazy enough to come up with the over-the-top race in the first place? That's right, a Navy man.
In 1978, following a running race around the Hawaiian island of Oahu, participants were sitting around arguing about who were the best overall athletes: swimmers, runners, or something else altogether. Among those involved in the discussion were Navy Cdr. John Collins and his wife Judy. They came up with a race that will settle the score once and for all.

Kid Rock kicks off Tour for the Troops at Incirlik

INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Kid Rock kicked off his Tour for the Troops with a packed house Dec. 1 at Incirlik's Hangar 4.
It was standing-room only as more than 1,000 members of the Incirlik community crammed into the hangar to hear Kid Rock play such hits as "Picture," "All Summer Long" and "Bawitdaba."
Rock, along with The Twisted Brown Trucker Band, comedian Carlos Mencia and singer/songwriter Jessie James, started the first of many concerts to thank the troops at Incirlik before heading to various locations in Southwest Asia.

Vandenberg completes first launch of year

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 30th Space Wing successfully completed its first launch of the year, an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, at 12:14 a.m. today from Launch Facility-10 on North Vandenberg.
The launch was part of an operational test to demonstrate the weapon system's reliability and accuracy.
